Jimmyleggs the Destroyer

I recently joined a group on Flickr called ‘Second Shotz‘. A source image is posted each week which is then digitally edited according to the whims of each group member. Below is my contribution for this week.

Jill came up with the title “Jimmyleggs”, which I think is possibly the best name EVER for a spider… especially a gigantic people-eating one. You’d think that it would be scary enough just running into a spider like that, but you’d be wrong: It’d be way scarier if you knew that his name was “Jimmyleggs”. Plus, when his fangs sucked down to the bottom of your brains, it would make the same sound that your straw makes at the end of a milkshake, and I think your legs would tend to dance around a little right then, causing anyone nearby to point and exclaim, “Ha! Jimmylegs!”

I worked so long on it last night that I thought it might be harmful to the environment if I didn’t recycle it here. It was definitely harmful to the future existence of my fourth child, who could have possibly been conceived last night, had it not been for my red-eyed wee-morning obsessive Photoshopping. Well… that, and Jill’s staunch opposition to the very idea of a fourth child at this time.

Thanks a lot, Jimmyleggs!

  2. Nicely done, sir. Nicely done.

(I probably would have made her puke on something myself. But that’s me… I think way outside the box.

  3. I was veddy impressed with your fine ps skills as well when I saw it on flickr. I’m excited to have you in the group and I hope you continue with us. Forget late night ps’n though, you have a whole week to complete the image, no rush needed. Although skipping out on the fourth child is logical, it just isn’t any fun not trying.

  4. I would like to thank you in advance for all the Jimmylegs nightmares I will have. I just hope whatever’s higher up in the food chain of my subconscious (Jennylasher the Frog? Zeus, the Toothy Purple Finch?)comes and saves me. I hope to see the PS rendering of this someday.

    Seriously, though. Very nice work.

  5. That is freaking awesome! Plus, I can now use it to torture Bear who hates spiders! Especially giant people-eating spiders!

  6. As I said in the Flickr group, I think your edit on this photo is outstanding.

In my opinion, you raised the bar for Second Shotz, in a big way. Kudos!!

  9. Inis! Would you believe that it’s actually a tiny jumping spider? Yep, real spider, super macro.

  11. *shudder* well, I would have weighed in earlier, but I’ve been up all night cowering and quaking in the corner. As much as I hate the subject, I have to admit it’s an awesome PS job!! I will say I’m going to keep my distance from Bill. Since *this* is what came to his mind, I’m starting to worry maybe he’s some kind of secret monster spider waiting to attack.

  12. Hi there - any chance of getting the tutorial on how you did this?

    Thx,

  13. Jeannie, cool that you’re interested! I’d have to backwards engineer some of the screenshots, but as time allows, I think I could revisit the process and document it. It would probably be over the next couple of weeks. I’ve been so busy I haven’t even posted in a week, so it’s also cool that anyone’s even still checking in at all!

I’ll drop you an email with a link in the near future.
